Answers to Frequently Asked Questions:
Is the main focus of this course to create a perfect resume? No. A main concern will be to insure each student has the ability to create perfect resumes. Having one completed perfect resume will not help if the position you are applying for does not match that one resume! It is the ability to write perfect resumes, business letters, and research career openings that is more important. But we will also discuss lots of aspects of importance to success in a life long career. Students focus on the documents (resume, etc), attitudes and interview techs needed to get them a job in Career Dev. Additionally, ways to develop a successful career are also explored. Other topics include work ethic, appearance/dress and networking. Here are the goals of this course:
Assume that individuals vary with regard to their writing skills. That being the case, there should be a variety of skills evident in the class. How can the class benefit them all? The physical process of writing is the best way to improve writing skills. As a result, the design of this course is set to give each student an opportunity to spend time writing. There are a range of different types of writing assignments, and even though there is apt to be a divergence of skill levels, each student will have the opportunity to increase their skill by doing these assignments. The books used for the course are a good investment. Granted that there are on-line resources that duplicate much and even in class the on-line resources are used when computers are available, but computers are not always available and over the course of a lifetime these resources may prove invaluable. My dictionaries and writing guides are old and crumpled but still sit close to my desk for instant access. The exercises in the text book are a great review for those already familiar with the concepts but they are essential for those who are not already fluent or who need practice. We will do some of the exercises in class but for the most part these exercises are homework. 1. Good question Craig! "Bill, I have a question with the answers that this program is giving. Sources of conflict in
collaborative writing include: I suspect the
problem is that the folks who assembled the code for the page are not even
remotely related to the folks that did the book. You are welcome to write the
folks on the page that presents the quizzes but I warn you that this may involve
work on your part. They will appreciate your help so much they will ask you to
help check the rest of the quizzes and before you know it they will have your
name and email address and they will ask you to help with other editing as well.
They will even offer to pay you for this. Before you know it they will be asking
you to edit the book! Then
they might ask you to write one. There
just aren’t that many people out there that notice this kind of thing. I notice
this kind of thing happens with all of these kinds of quizzes on line. I think
it is because the people who are the subject matter experts are not the ones who
are the web page masters. I would really not like to get in on this one since I
am still working on my last contract with Prentice Hall. That one started off
the same way I describe above! Everyone
says they would love to write and I suspect the main reason so few publish is
because so few take the time to actually write something and send it in! As far
as grading is concerned here is the issue as I see it: you feel like you have
the right answer but the web page disagrees. You don’t feel like putting the
wrong answer there just to get the quiz correct! So what to do? Submit the quiz
anyway even with the answer marked wrong by the computer and include your
comment, just as you did. I will consider this sort of thing even more excellent
than when you simply send in all the quizzes with a perfect grade. After all, it
means you are reading for understanding and getting a lot more out of it.
