Advice from Career Services

Job Seekers: Beware of your Digital Fingerprint!

This is the age of transparency, and many hiring managers have become savvy in searching on the Internet for information about you.

When you are about to begin your search for that new job or great career, screen for what information on you is public, and make sure it is all good! Every little thing you do to improve your chances over the next job seeker is a step toward your goal. Every little mistake could be what puts them over you in the competition. Take away some of their ammunition.

Come see Melanie or Wendy in Career Services before you are about to start your job search. We know lots more tips and pointers on making you ready to shine over the competition. The sooner we get you headed on the right track, the sooner you will be ready and the more prepared you will look and feel when you get that first interview (and the louder we will cheer when we hear you have been hired for that great job you dreamed of!)

Criminal Justice Clubs

Students in the Criminal Justice program should all be aware of the various clubs that are available to participate in. Right now, we are preparing for participation in the WPCJA regional conference. Charter College Criminal Justice students are preparing to write and present papers to the regional conference being held in Las Vegas, Nevada later this fall. We have narrowed topics down and are now in the research, data gathering and interview process. As a mentor for criminal justice students, I am excited to see our student progress in their education which will only help them in their future endeavors.

We are very close to having the numbers needed to start our own honors chapter through Alpha Phi Sigma. You are required to have completed four Criminal Justice classes with a GPA of 3.2 to participate in the honors club. As soon as we meet the criteria for membership, Charter College will apply for membership and be given our own Greek name and a banner to display on campus. It is an exciting time for Criminal Justice students as we progress further into the academics of our field. The next meeting is on July 22 at 4:30 p.m.
